6 activities for the whole family
A stay at Flora Batava is a great base to explore the Vecht region together. Around the hotel you will find plenty of activities for the whole family: from cycling and boating along the Vecht to walking, visiting castles and forts, and joining together at restaurant Bloei. This way, you combine being outdoors, culture, and good food in a relaxed day or weekend away.
1. Cycling in the Area
Hop on a bike together and discover the area in a relaxed way. From Flora Batava, you can cycle along the river Vecht, stately country estates, windmills, castles, and green meadows. Six cycling routes have been developed from the hotel, ranging from 20 to 60 kilometers. You can choose a regular bike or an electric bike, and the bikes are equipped with a phone holder so you can easily follow the route online.
Along the way, there is plenty to see for young and old. Stop by the water, admire the historic houses along the Vecht, or take the time for an ice cream in one of the villages in the area. This way, cycling becomes not only active, but above all, enjoyable.

2. Boating on the Vecht
You may experience the Vecht at its most beautiful from the water. Rent one of our sloops and calmly sail along the country estates, gardens, and terraces by the river. From the area around Flora Batava, you can sail towards Loenen, Maarssen, or further towards the Loosdrechtse Plassen. The Eropuit Arrangement of Flora Batava also mentions sailing towards the Loosdrechtse Plassen as a wonderful way to discover the surroundings.
Bring something tasty for the journey, wave to the boats you pass, and enjoy the pace of the water. For families, this is a delightful activity: there is plenty to see, little rush, and lots of space to enjoy together.
3. Walking in the Vecht Landscape
Those who prefer to keep both feet on the ground can put on their walking shoes. Flora Batava is idyllically located on the Vecht, surrounded by the green landscape of the Vecht region. On the website, Flora Batava describes the area as a place where you can relax, walk along the water, and enjoy the nature around the estate.
Take a short walk after breakfast, choose a route along the river, or let children search for birds, flowers, and boats along the way. Walking here is not a race, but a moment to pause and catch your breath together.
4. Dining at Restaurant Bloei
After a day full of cycling, boating, or walking, there is nothing better than sitting down at Restaurant Bloei. In the special historic villa of Hotel Flora Batava, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, high tea, or a flavorful dinner. The high ceilings, the intimate en suite rooms, and the large glass conservatory create a cozy, informal, and contemporary atmosphere.
The kitchen likes to work with carefully selected regional and seasonal ingredients. The menu focuses on Dutch products, pure flavors, stylish simplicity, and a touch of surprise.
In good weather, the garden terrace is a wonderful place to relax. And from May to September, you can also visit the Teahouse by the water, where you can enjoy tea, coffee with pastries, a glass of wine, or a savory snack while the boats pass by on the Vecht.
5. Visit various castles in the area
The Vecht region is rich in castles, country houses, and estates. From Flora Batava, among others, Castle Nijenrode, Castle Gunterstein, and Castle Oudaen can be easily viewed during a walk or bike ride. These castles are not open to the public, but they do give the area its historical character.
For a real castle visit, Castle de Haar, Castle Zuylen, Castle Loenersloot, and Castle Sypesteyn are nice options nearby. Castle de Haar and Castle Zuylen often have special activities or treasure hunts for children.
