CASTLES

IN THE VECHTSTREEK

The medieval castles tell a tale of the battle between the bishop of Utrecht and the count of Holland for control of the river. Several beautiful castles can be visited near Flora Batava.

FORTS

The Vecht formed the heart of the Dutch water line, when water was used as a means of defense. Fort Nieuwersluis is a short walk from Flora Batava and was built in 1673. A tower fortress was built in the mid-nineteenth century and a barracks and three depots were added around 1880. On Sundays, you can visit the cozy tea house here. Since July 26, 2021, the new Dutch water line has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as an extension of the defense line of Amsterdam.

LOOSDRECHTSE PLASSEN

BOATING

The Loosdrechtse plassen are a large water sports and nature reserve. The best way to enjoy the Loosdrechtse Plassen is on the water. And there are many possibilities for this.
