Summer tips: this is what you want to do this summer

Summer is perhaps the most beautiful time to explore the Vecht region. Long days, green banks, terraces by the water, and plenty of opportunities to be outdoors. From Flora Batava, you can experience the surroundings in a relaxed way: on the water, by bike, on foot, or at the table at Restaurant Bloei.

Sailing on the Vecht

A summer day on the Vecht is almost never complete without a boat trip. From the water, you see the surroundings in a very different way. You sail past stately country estates, green gardens, terraces on the water, and villages such as Breukelen, Loenen, and Maarssen.

At Flora Batava, you can rent various motorboats. Choose a smaller motorboat to sail yourself or step on board a larger motorboat with a skipper. There is plenty to see along the way, but it is precisely the slow pace that makes boating on the Vecht so enjoyable. With a drink on board, it becomes an ideal summer activity with family, friends, or colleagues.

Cycling through the Vecht region

The surroundings of Flora Batava are well suited for a bike ride. From the hotel, you can cycle directly towards the Vecht, along green banks, pastures, windmills, castles, and historic estates. The routes take you through villages such as Breukelen, Maarssen, and Loenen aan de Vecht, where you can easily make a stop along the way.

Several  cycling routes are available from Flora Batava, ranging from short routes to longer tours. You can choose a regular bike or an electric bike. In this way, you can easily turn a summer day into an active yet relaxed ride through the Vecht region.

Walking through the garden and surroundings

Those who want to start the day calmly can take a walk through the garden of Flora Batava or along the Vecht. The country estate is situated in a green area, with water nearby and plenty of space to step outside. In the summer, the garden looks beautiful, and there is plenty to see along the way, from flowers and trees to birds and passing boats.

There are also various walking opportunities in the immediate surroundings. You can take a short round along the water or choose to go a bit further towards the villages and country estates in the area. Walking  is thus an accessible way to discover the Vecht region at your own pace.

Discover country estates

The Vecht region is known for its stately country estates and manors. Along the river are historic buildings with special gardens, driveways, and facades that recall the rich history of this region. A route along these estates clearly shows why the Vecht has been beloved for centuries.

You can explore the country estates in various ways. By bike, you can see much of the surroundings in a short time; on foot, you take more time to notice details; and from the water, you get a completely different view of the gardens and houses along the river. Especially in the summer, when everything is green and life takes place around the water, this is a beautiful way to experience the region.

Lunching or having drinks on the terrace

On warm days, the terrace of Flora Batava is a nice place to settle down for an extensive lunch or a good glass of wine. You sit in the middle of greenery, with the country estate around you and the Vecht nearby. The terrace is therefore a good place to unwind after a walk, bike ride, or boat trip.

The Tea House by the water is also a lovely spot for a treat in the summer. While the boats pass by on the Vecht, you can enjoy coffee with cake, a glass of wine, lunch, or a drink. A summer afternoon is complete with good company, a pleasant outdoor setting, and something tasty on the table.

Dining at restaurant Bloei

You end a summer’s day perfectly with a dinner at restaurant Bloei. In the historic villa of Flora Batava, you can enjoy a culinary cuisine in which seasonality, quality, and pure flavors are central. The high ceilings, intimate spaces, and glass conservatory provide an atmospheric setting.

In good weather, the evening may start with an aperitif on the terrace. Afterwards, you sit down for a dinner in which Dutch products and carefully selected ingredients play the leading role. In this way, Restaurant Bloei forms a fitting end to a day at the Vecht: relaxed, flavorful, and well-prepared.
